ARSEN DEDIĆ (Šibenik, 28 July 1938 – Zagreb, 17 August 2015) was a Croatian composer, writer, translator, poet and singer-songwriter. "Homo volans" is the title of Arsen Dedić's third studio album, released on LP in 1973. With 22 tracks, it is the first double album in Croatian and then Yugoslav discography. "Homo volans" was also the first conceptual album in the aforementioned circles. It is considered "a milestone in the author's breakthrough from the traditional entertainment-music framework." Velimir Cindrić believes that the songs on the album sound "more developed, more profound and more experienced" and that Dedić made "a big leap and created a kind of amalgam of avant-garde, classics and hits". Atonal sounds and the influence of jazz are noticeable. However, the album is dominated by a singer-songwriter style through the songs "Tvoje nježne godine", "Laku noć, muzičari", and "Modra rijeka". Only the song "Tvoje nježne godine" achieved greater commercial success than the songs on the album, but Nenad Polimac maintains that "the album was full of songs that were quite pretentious and very original and did not even aspire to any place on the radio charts." It was critically well received, and was later considered "one of Dedić's best and most ambitious albums." In May 1974, it reached eighth place on the top ten best-selling albums chart.
