TAKO - Tako (1978)

TAKO was formed in 1974, in Beograd, Serbia (ex-Yugoslavia) by Dušan "Dule" Ćućuz (bass guitar, vocals), Đorđe Ilijin (keyboards, harmonica, flute, harp, vocals), Sava Bojić (guitar, vocals) and Milan "Mića Žorž" Lolić (drums). Previously, Dušan Ćućuz was a member of Džentlmeni and Plameni 6, he was one of the original Opus members and in the first half of the 1970s he worked as YU grupa's sound engineer, Sava Bojić was one of the original Pop Mašina members, and Đorđe Ilijin worked as a music teacher and often appeared as a guest musician on other bands' album recordings. During 1975 they made their first demo recordings, the songs "Čujem svoje misli", "Daždevnjak", "Lena" and "Čudan grad", in Radio Beograd studios. In 1977 guitarist and singer Miroslav Dukić and drummer Slobodan Felekatović replaced Bojić and Lolić and the band took part in Bijelo Dugme's concert at Hajdučka česma. In November 1977 Tako and progressive/acoustic rock band "S vremena na vreme" organized a quadraphonic sound concert in Belgrade Youth Center. The band also had a successful appearance at the 1978 Novi Sad BOOM festival. After they were refused as "non-commercial" by several major record labels, they signed for ZKP RTLJ after their performance at the Youth Festival in Subotica. The band released their debut self-titled album in 1978. The album featured symphonic rock-oriented songs with jazz elements. The song "Lena" featured Asim Sarvan on vocals. The song "Minijatura" was a tribute to the band Jethro Tull. The band promoted the album with a free concert held at Kalemegdan. After another quadraphonic sound concert organized with "S vremena na vreme" in Belgrade Youth Center, Tako went on hiatus in 1979 because Đorđe Ilijin got arthritis and Miroslav Dukić left the band. A year later the band continued their activity. Their second album, "U vreći za spavanje", was released in September 1980. Every song on the album was produced by the member of the band who wrote it. The band went on a tour, however, due to the departure of Slobodan Felekatović, who left the band due to his army obligations, and due to the great popularity of New Wave bands, Tako disbanded. They held their farewell concert at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy at the beginning of 1981. (from progarchives.com)

BIJELO DUGME - Šta bi dao da si na mom mjestu (1975)

"Šta bi dao da si na mom mjestu" is the second studio album from influential former Yugoslav rock band BIJELO DUGME, released in 1975. The album is a continuation of the band's early folkish hard rock sound that was featured on their debut album "Kad bi' bio bijelo dugme", again incorporating folk music elements blended with blues. Although the album was recorded in London, the songs were written during August, September, and October 1975 in the Bosnian village of Borike (near Rogatica), renowned for its breeding of Arabian horses. The album is perhaps most memorable for its songs "Ne gledaj me tako i ne ljubi me više", "Požurite konji moji", title track "Šta bi dao da si na mom mjestu", all tracks exceeding 6 minutes, and all-time hit "Tako ti je mala moja kad ljubi Bosanac". CACADOU LOOK - Tko mari za čari (1987)

CACADOU LOOK was formed in Opatija, in 1983, Croatia. They were not the first all-female band in Yugoslavia — at the time, already active were "Tožibabe" from Ljubljana and "Boye" from Novi Sad — but they were the first to achieve a degree of mainstream popularity, helped by radio play of their two demo tracks, "Sama" and "Kao pjesma", and by TV appearances such as those on Stereovizija, a popular 1980s music show broadcast by Radio Television Zagreb. Their first album "Tko mari za čari" (Jugoton, 1987) was produced by Husein Hasanefendić and Tomo in der Mühlen, and featured a guest appearance by Vlada Divljan. The album yielded three hit songs: "Sama", "Kao pjesma" and "Tako lako". Apart from "Tako lako", a cover of Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy", and "Ne dozvoli", which was written by Divljan, all songs on the album were composed by the band. Despite these accomplishments, the band found working in the men-dominated music scene difficult at times, and occasional malicious remarks motivated them to work even harder. Their second and equally successful album "Uspavanka za Zoroa" was released in 1989. Hit tracks from the album were "Baum bam bam", "Budi mi prijatelj", and "Krenite s nama", the latter a cover of Bryan Ferry's "Let's Stick Together". An English version of "Budi mi prijatelj" — named "Be My Friend" — was also recorded, appearing on Yu-Go Pop (Jugoton, 1990), a compilation of Yugoslav pop and rock artists performing their songs in English. Cacadou Look played their last gig in Zagreb on May 25, 1991. Members of the band were not willing to start solo careers — seeing them as meaningless without the band team work — and left the music scene. (from wikipedia)

PARAF - A dan je tako lijepo počeo (1979)

PARAF is a punk rock and later post-punk band from Rijeka, Croatia, known as one of the pioneers of punk rock in the former Yugoslavia. Following the expansion of punk rock in Europe, teenagers Valter Kocijančić (guitar, vocals), Zdravko Čabrijan (bass) and Dušan Ladavac "Pjer" formed Paraf during the late 1977. The band had their first live appearances at the Rijeka high-schools along with the bands of similar musical orientation, Termiti, Protest and Lom. During the late 1978, the band started performing frequently, even outside Rijeka. They played in Ljubljana, Beograd, Zagreb. The band also performed at the Novi Sad Boom festival, as well as an opening act for The Ruts concert in Zagreb. In 1979, they released their debut single "Rijeka", a cover version of the Ramones song "Chinese Rocks", but Kocijančić signed as the song author in order to test the Yugoslav critics of the time. Despite the intention, it was the Džuboks magazine journalist Petar Luković who recognized that the song was a cover version. The band also appeared on the various artists compilation album Novi punk val 78-80, released in 1980, with the song "Narodna pjesma". After several delays, the band debut album "A dan je tako lijepo počeo"was released by ZKP RT Ljubljana during the spring of 1980. Due to the explicit lyrics, the album was taxed as kitsch despite the fact that a part of the lyrics had to be changed and the band had to use an alternate album cover. Following the punk rock ideology, the band discussed several themes which were at the time new to the Yugoslav rock: the songs featured ironic usages of communist slogans, mocked, at the time, one of the most popular bands, Bijelo Dugme, in the song "Pritanga i vaza", insulting the police in the censored version of "Narodna pjesma", and dealt with social themes typical for a seaside city. The album production was done by the band's close associate Goran Lisica "Fox", assisted by Igor Vidmar. After the album release Valter Kocijančić left the band, later joining the band Istočni Izlaz, until quitting his musical career and becoming a teacher, which is also his current occupation. The new members had become the vocalist Pavica Mijatović, using the pseudonym Vim Cola, and the guitarist Klaudio Žic. The latter soon after left the band and the new members had become the guitarist Mladen Vičić "Riči" and keyboard player Raul Varlen. With the arrival of the new members, the band also changed their musical style, moving towards post-punk, influenced by the popular British bands of the genre. The new musical orientation was presented to the wider audience on the second studio album "Izleti". After a series of promotional concerts, the guitarist Vičić left the band, being replaced by a former Termiti member Robert Tičić. The new lineup started recording the third studio album, and during the period in between the recording sessions and the album mixing the twenty-two-year-old Tičić got a flow of blood onto the brain which was fatal to him. His replacement was the guitarist Mladen Ilić, later the founder of the band Psi. The album "Zastave", released in 1984, featured lyrical themes related to the near history, influenced by Miroslav Krleža. The album was produced by the band themselves with the Borghesia member Aldo Ivančić. Despite offering a serious release, especially in the tracks "U pobjede nove" and "Zlatno doba", the album, due to being uncommunicative, was not well accepted by the audience. The band existed until 1986 when they disbanded. Pavica Mijatović and Zdravko Čabrijan got married and moved to Krk where they started a tourist business. Drummer Dušan Ladavac joined Let 2 but left the band before it evolved into Let 3. The original Paraf lineup reunited in 1994 in order to perform at the Ri-Rock festival, the third Fiju Briju festival, as well as to perform several solo concerts. In 1996, Kocijančić performed the song "Rijeka" with the ad hoc group Blagdan Band, and the recording of the song appeared on the live album "Pallach's not dead". The original lineup reunited again on December 13, 2003, and the recordings of the songs "Rijeka" and "Hit tema" from the performance were released on the various artists live album "25. Ri-Rock", released by Dallas Records in 2004. Four years later, in 2008, the band reunited in both the punk rock and post-punk lineups at the promotion of the "Riječki novi val" box set.
